Mismatch of the service life of the structure and material

To base a 100-year reinforced concrete structure on a waterproofing system with a nominal resource of 50 years is an engineering disaster delayed in time. The loss of protective properties of the membrane in the 50th year of the building's life means the beginning of irreversible degradation of load-bearing structures — precisely when access to the outer contour is permanently closed. The difference here is not in marketing, but in the chemistry of the material: bituminous systems modified with SBS age honestly — oxidize, lose plasticizers, become more brittle over the years, and the manufacturer reasonably indicates a resource of about 30–50 years. Synthetic polyolefin systems (HDPE) are chemically inert: they do not hydrolyze, do not rot, and do not degrade in the soil, which provides grounds for a resource of over 100 years.

The cost of construction tolerances and the human factor Even the declared resource of the material is achieved only with ideal installation. Real construction is a high-risk environment: micro-damage during reinforcement, foundation deformations, local leaks at joints. If the system lacks a reliable adhesive mechanical lock with the concrete that excludes lateral water migration, any local damage ceases to be local — and the actual failure-free operation period is reduced long before the design one. The advantage of a fully bonded membrane is precisely that the breach remains localized and does not spread along the contour

The economics of secondary repairs According to industry estimates, the cost of secondary elimination of leaks in the underground part — injection, internal retaining walls, stopping corrosion of reinforcement — exceeds the initial costs for quality waterproofing by several times, while not providing a full guarantee of restoring the monolithic integrity of the contour. Savings at the tender stage turn into significantly larger expenses decades later.

Features of the technology

PREPRUFE® - This is a cold technology: no open flames, no primers and fillets, no special equipment. You can walk on the laid surface immediately and install reinforcement. The effectiveness does not depend on the compressive pressure or hydration and does not change from wetting-drying cycles. The membrane is chemically resistant to salts and sulfates — that is, it protects the structure in real, not laboratory conditions of groundwater.

PREPRUFE® 120S — for critical underground objects under constant pressure. This is the choice for structures that constantly operate below the groundwater level: protective structures, reservoirs, deep basements, infrastructure facilities. The system seals joints, corners, and penetrations with full adhesion, ensuring reliability where the cost of leakage is highest.

PREPRUFE® 150S — a proven solution for typical underground structures. An optimal balance of protection and cost for conditions of moderate and periodic water exposure: underground parking lots, technical and basement rooms. The membrane, with a thickness of 1.5 mm, withstands hydrostatic pressure up to 71 meters of water column, retains flexibility down to −29 °C, and has a vapor permeability of less than 0.1 perm — the structure is physically isolated from the soil, moisture, and contaminants.

Both systems are not just membranes, but a complete package: tapes for joints and corners, liquid membranes for penetrations, hydrophilic water stops for seams.
