Renderoc® HB

Renderoc® HB is a polymer-modified cement repair mortar for thick layer application (class R2), specially designed for vertical repairs and repairs of structures with material application on ceilings

Corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete structures

In a normal state, concrete has high alkalinity (pH around 12–13). This environment creates a thin oxide film on the surface of steel, which protects it from rust. However, due to the destructive action of external factors such as chlorides and salts, as well as carbon dioxide penetrating from the air into the pores of the concrete, the alkaline protection disappears. The gas reacts with calcium hydroxide, lowering the pH level of the concrete to less than 9, and the reinforcement begins to rust. For concrete, this is a critical phenomenon, as rust literally starts to tear the concrete apart from the inside, leading to its destruction. The Renderoc® HB mixture has an alkaline nature that stops the oxidation of metal and creates a protective barrier around the steel frame. The material has low permeability, which accordingly provides protection against the destructive effects of carbon dioxide and chlorides.

Main use

Renderoc® HB is used for the restoration of large areas of concrete and for small local (pothole) repairs. Renderoc HB has an alkaline nature and provides protection for the embedded steel reinforcement. The material is specially designed for vertical and overhead (ceiling) work with a large thickness of application. The mortar is suitable for use where medium strength is required, as well as exceptionally high resistance to chlorides and carbon dioxide.

The material can be applied in one go without the use of formwork in layers up to 100 mm thick on vertical surfaces and up to 60 mm on overhead surfaces. Greater layer thickness can be achieved using formwork or by applying in layers. Deep local damages can sometimes be filled in one go — depending on the configuration of the damaged area and the volume of exposed reinforcement.

Renderoc® HB can be quickly and effectively applied using the wet spray method.
