The need to create a barrier between the substrate and the repair layer
Nitobond EP is a 100% solid epoxy resin, solvent-free, containing pigments and fine dispersible filler
"Material Conflict" in construction is a situation where two or more interacting building materials negatively affect each other due to differences in their physical, chemical, or mechanical properties. This leads to the destruction of layers, loss of adhesion, or premature deterioration of the entire structure. For example, a chemical conflict may arise at the junction of organic and mineral materials, as the alkaline environment of concrete or moisture contained in it can react chemically with the components of the finishing coating (some types of adhesive mixtures or polymers). Or physical incompatibility, for instance, in areas of rigid adhesion of materials that differ in nature (metal and concrete, plastic and cement mortar, epoxy resins and ordinary heavy concrete). Then, when temperature or humidity changes, materials change their volume differently, meaning one expands more while the other less. Internal mechanical stresses arise at their contact point. If the adhesion is rigid, the material with lower strength cannot withstand it and begins to crack or delaminate. To avoid such problems during repairs, special barrier layers and primers are used. Such is Nitobond EP, which has a two-component epoxy composition. It acts as a buffer: neutralizes the aggressive influence of the substrate, equalizes the difference in properties, and creates a reliable, chemically resistant bonding zone for the new layer of material.

Nitobond EP is used to bond new cement repair mortars and screeds, including Patchroc GP and Paveroc, with existing cement surfaces. It can be applied on horizontal surfaces as well as on vertical surfaces where the mortar or concrete can be held by formwork. It is particularly suitable for the expansion and repair of concrete structures in factories, loading and unloading areas, access roads for heavy vehicles, bridges, roads, as well as for adhesive or granolithic floor coverings, especially where constant immersion in water is expected during operation.
The material is supplied as a two-component composition in pre-weighed quantities, ready for mixing and application directly on the construction site.
The colored components — white base and green hardener — serve as a visual confirmation that proper mixing has been achieved.
Specification
The adhesive layer must be Nitobond EP, mixed and applied to the prepared substrate according to the manufacturer's written instructions before laying the new screed or concrete covering within the recommended period to ensure proper adhesive characteristics. If the product is to function as a barrier for chlorides, two layers must be applied. The first layer should be carefully checked for voids, which must be filled with Nitomortar PE before applying the second layer.
Advantage 1
Can be applied to dry or wet surfaces
Advantage 2
High mechanical strength
Advantage 3
Good direct adhesion
Advantage 4
Can be used where a barrier between the substrate and the repair layer is needed
Advantage 5
Standard and slow-curing modifications (grades)
